From I Saw the TV Glow and Casino Royale to Earthbound and The Z Word, check out the December Round-Up!

What’s happening on Glitterjaw this month.

The Mixed Reviews explored the deep film history of Mr. No-Pants himself, Ralph Fiennes. Of course, Gavin and Louie talk about how he received that nickname, the history behind the pronunciation of his name, and his entire acting career, from Quiz Show (1994) and In Bruges (2008) to The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) and Conclave (2024).

Gimmicks released the LIT-iest episode ever, walking from the tippity top to the tippity bottom of Broad City’s “Stories”! Derek and David were joined on their excursion by friend of the podcast, Hamish Steele, to help break down the secret butt montage, millennial culture, and so much more in this social media influenced episode.

Then in December, they flew to Smallville to discuss the Christmas-themed and It’s a Wonderful Life/Christmas Carol-inspired episode “Lexmas,” including Derek’s deep history with the show.

Distant Echoes: A Star Wars Podcast took on a suicide mission to Scarif to discuss 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as they primed themselves to hop into coverage of Andor. Then, in their first episode covering the series, Cass and Tommy talked all the background, anti-fascist motifs, and production details you need to know about one of the most lauded Star Wars shows ever made.

Are You My Mother? gave listeners an episode about a fascinating Mother, Ness’s Mom from the 1995 NES game Earthbound. Flying solo, David took listeners through the emotional story which features gameplay ailments like homesickness and nausea.

Later in December, David was once again joined by musician and host of Sweet Child of Time, Steve Barnes, to discuss the queen of schemes, Cersei Lannister from Game of Thrones

Fear Coded: A Queer Horror Podcast served up a heaping helping of segue trauma for Thanksgiving as the trio watched one of the scariest episodes of X-Files: Season 4 Episode 2, “Home.” Then, David, Merrilee, and Tyler were joined by fellow Glitterjawer Doug Fink to discuss 2024’s I Saw the TV Glow, diving deep into the film’s queer themes.

The Q Division introductory mission, should you choose to accept it (you should, it’s great), was the very first television adaptation of Ian Fleming’s James Bond novel Casino Royale! Chels and Gavin talked all about this rough, early adaptation, including the backstory and all the flubbed dialogue.

Skreeonk! gathered a lot of fish and took on a film many a Skreeonk! fan have been waiting for — Roland Emmerich’s 1998 disaster Godzilla. Derek and Doug tunneled through much of Emmerich’s filmography for this one as they tackled the first, and only, Godzilla film directed by an openly queer person, for better or worse.

Walloping Websnappers! thwipped up a veritable smörgåsbord of episodes from November through Mid-December. Derek and Doug continued their journey through Season 1 of Ultimate Spider-Man, visiting a wretching Hulk in “Home Sick Hulk.” To kick off December (and perhaps remove the taste of Fred Tatasciore’s vomit sounds from their memory) the two switched gears and discussed a surreal episode of Spider-Woman—“The Great Magini” before swinging back to Ultimate Spider-Man for “Run Pig Run”.

Novel Gaming! shuffled their way through their latest book club episode, discussing 2024’s queer zombie outbreak novel—and breakout novel for author Lindsay King-Miller—The Z Word! Then, in December, Katie and Doug looked back at 2024, talking about some fo their favorite reads, watches, and plays from the year. Plus, be sure to check out what the two have been reading, watching, playing, and thinking about, like Dragon Age: The Veilguard, all month long!

Lee Carvallo’s Podding Challenge stepped into the virtual world with guest Jess Matthews to talk 1994’s Virtual Bart—the final Simpsons video game to be named after last century's Dennis The Menace. With THE Fox Kids historian in the house, the Carvallo Boys also dove into two rare instances of Simpsons crossing over with Fox Kids.

Thank you all for being along with us throughout 2024 — listening, commenting, supporting, and showing us all kinds of love! We’ll be right here alongside you no matter what next year brings.
