Musicals on the Big Screen, Simpsons Tier Lists, Andor and More!

It’s the First Glitterjaw Roundup of 2025.

The Q Division accepted their second and third missions and activated their first guest agent this month. First, Chels and Gavin said “yes” to 1962’s Dr. No, breaking down the history of the first theatrical James Bond film. Then, the two were joined by special agent Dan Mecca! Dan, a filmmaker, producer, podcaster and co-creator of The Film Stage, joined Chels and Gavin to talk 1963's From Russia with Love, diving deep into its queer-coded villains, cultural exchanges, and who is lip syncing for their life this time!

Are You My Mother? promised listeners Neverland as David was joined by returning guest, author, and co-host of the Too Tall Boys, StarCHaser Central, and Clueless Vino podcasts, Stik Braxton to discuss a mother figure hiding a dark secret: Isabella from the anime series The Promised Neverland! The duo discussed playing tag, broken systems (and limbs), emo-ridden drama queens, and of course answered the question: Is Isabella our mother?

Fear Coded: A Queer Horror Podcast released a whooping three episodes since we last checked in as the trio went weekly during the first month of 2025! First, if you were scared David, Merrilee and Tyler wouldn’t discuss the horror for the holidays, your fears were abated as they tackled 1974’s Black Christmas. Then, the crew declared all food is gay and kicked off their month-long celebration of TEENS for Jan-TEEN-uary with Grady Hendrix’s 2016 novel My Best Friend’s Exorcism. Finally, the crew dove into the 1976 classic Carrie

Walloping Websnappers! webbed up a series of Glitterjaw guest hosts who joined Doug while Derek headed to Japan! First, David Arnold stopped by to break down Ultimate Spider-Man’s “I Am Spider-Man” and “The Iron Octopus.” Then, Doug’s Novel Gaming co-host Katie dropped by to discuss a time-travel tale in Spider-Woman’s “A Crime in Time.” And finally, Fear Coded’s Merrilee stepped in as the pod returned to Ultimate Spider-Man to discuss “Not a Toy” and “Attack of the Beetle.”

Distant Echoes: A Star Wars Podcast gushed over the new-to-them series, Andor, breaking down Episodes 2 and 3 of the series first season, “That Would Be Me” and “Reckoning,” including themes of collective action, evil corporations assisting fascist empires, and drawing parallels to the very real corporate authorities that impact lives in our own world (*cough* Amazon *cough*).

And, the two brought back the popular segment “Beyond the Outer Rim,” discussing some non-Star Wars topics, including The Muppet Christmas Carol, Kaiju No. 8, and Book of Hours!

The Mixed Reviews closed off 2024 by holding space for the lyrics of all our favorite musicals as Gavin and Louie discussed the history of “Musicals from Stage to Screen!” From 2024’s Wicked to The Jazz Singer and The Sound of Music, and so much more, the podcast truly came alive with the sound of music as the duo lead listeners through a deep and thorough exploration of this expansive topic!

Skreeonk! ended 2024 with a bang as Derek and Doug were joined by writer Shawn Pryor to discuss his colossal new book Kaiju Unleashed! The three discussed the process of writing a book for tokusatsu novices and die-hards alike, and talked everything from Power Rangers to Spider-Woman and lesser-known 70s toku. Then in their first episode of the new year, listeners were treated to a double-header as Derek filled everyone in on his holidays in Japan, including all his Godzilla-related experiences, followed by a re-airing of the Patreon episode on Hanna-Barbera's 1978 Godzilla cartoon (aka The Godzilla Power Hour).

Lee Carvallo’s Podding Challenge revisited the (few) good, the (several) bad, and the all around weird Simpsons games they played throughout the year as they reached the half-way point in their journey. Plus, Derek and Tommy discussed the news of Pamela Hayden’s retirement and broke down her final episode on the series “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked this Way Comes.”

Novel Gaming! Returned to 1950s San Francisco for their final book club of the year as Katie and Doug read and discussed Rough Pages by Lev A. C. Rosen, the third book in Rosen’s Evander Mills mystery series. Before that, the duo talked about what we’ve been playing, watching, and thinking about lately, including Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Bugsnax: The Card Game, Cunk on Earth, and Dream Productions!
