Glitterjaw This Month: From Dexter’s Lab to Queer as Folk, Q&A’s to Film Festival Wrap Ups, and Mothra to Flesh-Eating Mermaids
Check out what’s happening on all the Glitterjaw pods in our Monthly Round-Up!
New Show!
The Q Division shook (but didn’t stir) up the Glitterjaw lineup, dropping their introductory episode! In it, hosts Gavin and Chels talked a little Bond history and what to expect from the show.
Tune in November 20th when they cover the first Bond project, 1954’s television adaptation of Casino Royale!
Gimmicks celebrated Halloween with My So-Called Life! David and Derek were treated by the wonderful Matt Baume, writer, podcaster, and pop-culture critic who joined to help discuss the teen drama, Claire Danes' breakout performance, Jared Leto jumpscares, the show's groundbreaking queerness, and more!
Then, in November, the duo were joined by Tyler Lee who, when he was just six and a half years old, saw the episode he recorded in his bathroom turned into a famous episode of the show Dexter’s Laboratory. Don’t forget, you are stupid if you don’t check out these episodes!
Are You My Mother? jumped from one reality to another to discuss Olivia Dunham from the television series, Fringe. To help guide the discussion, David was joined by one of his Fear Coded co-Hosts Merrilee to discuss this sci-fi mother.
Then, during the first week of November, David trekked up and down Liberty Avenue with Joel from May the Power Protect You to discuss Debbie Novotny from Showtime’s Queer as Folk.
Distant Echoes: A Star Wars Podcast bid a bittersweet adieu to Star: Wars Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C3PO. Cass and Tommy were joined by blogger, photographer, and member of many a fandom, Meigs from Meig’s Odyssey, to talk about the final two episodes of the show.
Then, Patrick Cotnoir, Executive Producer for The George Lucas Talk Show stopped by once again to preview Mustafar Takes Los Angeles: A Live-Staged Reading of Revenge of the Sith and break down the hour-long Droids Television special The Great Heep!
Fear Coded: A Queer Horror Podcast celebrated All Hallows’ Eve in the most spine-chilling way possible—answering your delightful and devilish questions during their massive Halloween Q&A episode!
And on their first episode of November, the trio were joined by a podcaster from a galaxy…pretty close by, actually! Cass from Distant Echoes stopped by to discuss all the queer filth, horror, and glamor within Clive Barker’s 1987 masterpiece of horror Hellraiser. They also talked Squishmellows, so there’s truly something for everyone!
The Mixed Reviews got spooky and helped listeners plan a perfect Halloween playlist! They also shared even more about the New York Film Festival, highlighting many of their favorite moments and films, and the larger themes of the festival.
Novel Gaming! gathered around the podcast fires to discuss the creepy (and gross) novella The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw, which features a flesh-eating mermaid, plague doctors, and a suspicious town full of children.
Then, Katie and Doug whipped up a little something special for listeners, answering “Three Culinary Gaming Questions” in November. And of course, the duo kept listeners up to date on what they’ve been reading, playing, watching, and thinking about, which includes Japanese horror, Final Fantasy VII, Gastronauts, and so much more.
Walloping Websnappers! continued their journey through Ultimate Spider-Man, breaking down the genre-parodying antics of Nick Fury in “For Your Eyes Only” and the could-be-straight-from-Kamen-Rider Beetle in the punnily titled “Beetle Mania.”
The two then turned back the clocks to discuss one of the best episodes of 1979’s Spider-Woman “Spider-Woman and the Fly,” before heading to the beach and returning to Ultimate Spider-Man once more for “Snow Day.”
Skreeonk! chillaxed with the super fly queen Mothra for her bomb 90s debut in Godzilla vs. Mothra. Derek and Doug were joined by Donny Winter, LGBTQ+ poet, YouTube blogger, educator, and activist, for the Heisei era's turn to fantasy, featuring alien Mothra, her goth counterpart Battra, and a very angry Godzilla.
Lee Carvallo’s Podding Challenge broke news and discussed everything they know about the imminent shutdown of The Simpsons: Tapped Out—and what they think it means for the future of Simpsons games. Plus they, of course, discussed Bart & The Beanstalk, a disappointing but pretty Game Boy title, as well as some banger episodes of the show—"Bart Gets Famous," "Homer and Apu," "Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy," and "Deep Space Homer."
