Are You My Mother? exploded back into our podcast feeds in spectacular fashion as David welcomed guests to discuss two of the most iconic, badass science fiction mothers of all time. First, David’s Fear Coded co-host Tyler joined to talk Xenomorphs, cat rescues, and, the space mommy herself, Ellen Ripley from the Alien franchise. In October, Gimmicks co-host Derek joined to talk time paradoxes and the mother of the savior of mankind, Sarah Connor, as they traveled through The Terminator franchise.
Distant Echoes: A Star Wars Podcast danced with droids once more as they welcomed comic writer and host of Sci-Fi Explosion Chris Cummins on the pod to talk all things science fiction and even more Star Wars: Droids. The two set off on a solo mission for the penultimate episode and discussed their thoughts on the journey so far.
Novel Gaming! released their 100th episode! To celebrate the milestone, certified Platinum (see what we did there?) co-founder Vikki returned to talk trophy hunting and 100 percenting games! And for episode 101, Doug and Kaite discussed the horror novella The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw. And of course, they discussed everything they’ve been watching, playing, reading and thinking about in both episodes, including The Wild Robot, The Substance, and Agatha All Along.
The Mixed Reviews entered their Winonasance era as they discussed the iconic star of everything from Beetlejuice and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to Heathers and Little Women, it’s Winona Ryder! Plus, Mixed Reviews patrons absolutely feasted this month as Gavin and Louie covered multiple films from The 62nd Annual New York Film Festival, Lázaro at Night, Pavements, No Other Land, Nickel Boys, The Room Next Door, and Oh, Canada!
Gimmicks opened the vault and went in reverse as Derek and David dissected Seinfeld’s “The Betrayal,” aka The Backwards episode. The two discussed everything from the episode’s problematic humor around India to the Harold Pinter inspiration. Later in the month, the duo broke bad and discussed one of the most divisive episodes of Breaking Bad, “Fly.” Plus, they talked with Daniel Roemer, creator of Chaser on Amazon Prime TV, about creating high-concept television.
Fear Coded: A Queer Horror Podcast went weekly for the month of October, releasing a new episode or minisode each week! For their first minisode, the trio dove into the world of internet horror and creepypastas, with David, Merrilee, and Tyler each discussing a different internet horror story. For the main course, monsters are on the menu as they watched James Whale’s Frankenstein from 1931 and asked the important question…is science gay?
Plus…you know what else is spooky? Dead…lines…. That’s right, your deadline to ask the Fear Coded Crew anything for their upcoming AMA episode is October 25! You can submit questions through their social media pages or email fearcodedpod@gmail.com!
Speaking of AMAs, our friendly neighborhood Walloping Websnappers! answered all of your questions across their multiple podcasts. On the Walloping Websnappers! feed, they covered all Spider-Man questions and everything in-between. Then, Derek and Doug got back into the swing of things as they returned to Ultimate Spider-Man season 1!
Skreeonk! armed themselves with Epipens to take on the giant shellfish menace Ebirah as they discussed 1966’s Ebirah, Horror of the Deep. You owe it to yourself to check out this episode for the incredible cover art by host Doug alone. It’s breathtaking…just like the episode!
Plus, they also answered all your burning Kaiju questions in their Godzilla-focused AMA. And the AMAs don’t stop there, because Derek and Doug also answered all your Pixar questions on Falling With Style!
Lee Carvallo’s Podding Challenge looked up in the sky to talk about all things comic book video game tie-ins. From the very first title Superman for the Atari 2600 to the Atari Force to Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, Derek and Tommy talked a brief history of superheroes in gaming all to lay the groundwork to play Bartman Meets Radioactiveman, a late NES Simpsons’ title that was…surprisingly fun?
